Romantic Music Composers were inspired by their cultures they grew up in. This Music is still heard around the world today. Ludwig Von Beethoven, his music is known to be powerful and passionate. Pastoral Symphony, Fidelio, and his last symphony.

Romantic Music Pyotr Ilich Tachaichysky A Russian composer, wrote ballet music, operas, and symphonies. Built his works around stories. The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet and 1812 Overture(Celebrates Napoleons defeat).

The Rise of Realism Romantic art and Literature had little to do with ordinary people. Artist began to deal with everyday life and society. Realism Realist often dealt with economic and social issues. Leo Tolstoy --- War and Peace --- Book about the misery and death of war.

The Rise of Realism In the U.S. one form of realism was regionalism. Focused on everyday life in certain places. Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn – Wrote by Mark Twain – Described life along the Missippippi.

Naturalist Naturalist took realism even further. They showed the ugly and unpleasant aspect everyday life. Emily Zola and Charles Dickens. A Christmas Carol and Oliver Twist

Impressionist Impressionist painters tried to paint vivid impressions of people and places. Studied light and color to get effect. Cluade Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir
