Rationale Professional Learning - In an organization that learns we are ensuring sacred time for staff professional development using research-based practice to facilitate it. This includes front-loaded professional development at the Learning Institute and full day staff meetings throughout the year. Non-Instructional Days - Based upon feedback from parents and staff, as much as possible, we have grouped non-instructional days in ways that do not break up the instructional week for students and create opportunities for familes to plan holiday periods (i.e. long weekends, November break). Sustained Periods of Learning - The grouping of non-instructional is also done with the goal of creating sustained periods of learning for students that minimize as much as possible, disruption to the day-to-day school routine. The November Break - The November Break is a grouping of non-instructional days placed in the calendar strategically around the first reporting period (similar to Spring Break in March). This period of time tends to be intense for staff and thus the break is welcomed. It is also planned at a time when those who wish to travel out of the country can do so more economically.
